Good day friends. We are getting more produce off of the fields and hoop houses. Enough to supply the basket company and some for the produce stand. Woo hoo! We have asparagus, beets, carrots, green garlic, lettuce, spinach, swiss chard and chives. Please call for availability or stop by. We have bins on the porch of the kitchen with that day’s picking, the Produce Stand is not open as of yet. We have not started baking breads and cookies, but we will take orders, just give us a call.
The weather has warmed up nicely. The sun has been out. There are still big, fluffy clouds floating by but then again I love those big, fluffy clouds.
We have had some storms come through in the past week, those clouds were very dark and menacing. Did not get much rain here in the valley, but then again all around us it looked as though it was raining. Oh well, we are often called the “Banana Belt” and the storms just swing wide around us. Frustrating!
I have included a note Charlotte wrote for the CSA newsletter this week:
It’s always an exciting time around the farm when the farmers markets start for the season. This year, we’re lucky to have a chance at an early start with the Carson City Mini-Market at the Greenhouse Nursery. We’ll have seasonal produce as well as all our delicious breads, jams, and canned goods, including Lattin Farm‘s famous pickles! It’s a nice market to visit, with a couple of vendors from California who already have tree fruit and strawberries! Nevada’s Own is also there with their beautiful tomato plants of all varieties including Cherokee purple and German stripped. While you’re there the nursery is a great place to visit to get everything for your garden. We love heading to markets because it’s our chance to meet our customers face to face. It’s great to hear how you are doing and what you are looking forward to this season. The mini-market will be at the Nursery for 2 more weeks before we move to the usual spot at 3rd Ave. and Curry Street on June 11th. Keep an eye out for our other popular markets in Reno, Sparks and Fallon also starting in June.
I will keep you updated on when the farmer’s markets are scheduled to begin and which markets we will send produce and baked good to. Hope you have a wonderful week friends. Can’t wait for the produce to really start rolling in.
